About Me:
After narrowly escaping collisions on two separate occasions while driving his car, a bearing salesman named Eugene Kiefel began looking for a job change. He investigated several business opportunities including go-kart sales and a Dairy Queen franchise. Then he saw an ad in the Denver Post: Bike Shop for Sale. He responded to the ad, and in August, 1973, purchased the shop. Starting with $4,800 and 750 square feet, Eugene built a bicycle empire. In 1973, the store staff included Eugene, and well, Eugene. During the summers he tripled his staff with the addition of his three children, Ron, Leona, and Erlinda. One of those children, Ron, left the shop to become a seven-time Tour de France competitor, the first American to win a stage in the Giro d’Italia and a 1984 Olympic bronze medalist, and is now WRC's general manager. We don’t want to think about what might have been if Eugene had chosen the DQ franchise. Today we operate out of a 29,000 square foot facility, selling thousands of bicycles each year, and we still treat our customers with the same respect, honesty and value Eugene began with over 30 years ago.
