West End 6pm Ride
posted by at 07:59 AM on May 14, 2008
I just got into Houston yesterday and went straight to one of the shops I'll be working with this week. I introduced myself and met Cynthia @ Bike Barn. Super cool chick! She invited me out on a group ride that night with another shop.
I made my way to West End Bicycles (Be sure to leave early... traffic sucks in Houston). The shop is nestled away in a quaint little neighborhood near downtown. I wish I had time to go inside the shop - but didn't.
We rolled out at 6pm and made our way to downtown Houston - there were about 15 of us. This is a perfect ride if your looking for some good interval training. The pace was brisk, 22-24mph for 25 miles.
The people I road with were great - really down-to-earth people. I had a blast.
Words of advice: bring plenty of water, some energy is a good idea and some food. It can be pretty hot in downtown... be prepared for the humidity.
Afterwards, we went to a Greek Pizza place. Awesome pizza, great beer and company! Be sure to try the local brew, Shiner Bohemia Black - it's amazing!
